I would really like to be able to hear the turbine. Everyone selling them says they're very quiet, but I want to know from people that own them.

This is facinating. I would like to know what the average wind speed you have and how much power are you seeing now on average. I have 45 feet trees around my house, how high would I have to go to put in a skystream?

We have one in downtown Golden, CO that I go watch when the wind blows. They're very quiet. You'll hear the noise of trees and limbs leaves blowing along the ground over the blades. As far as the height of the tower, you're not going to do well with 45 foot trees. Google "doe small wind guide" to get info on the requirements for proper siting.

Kevin,
We tried to capture the sound of our wind turbine to post, but all you can hear is the wind in the microphone. The sound of our Skystream is a humming sound that is similar to a tornado siren from a few miles away. We can't hear it from the front yard or in the house. Our turbine is only 25 feet from our bedroom window.
It also has a whistling sound of the wind crossing the blade that is like a small bird chirping the trees. I actually had a bird that was close by that was similar when I was trying to record the turbine.
When the wind gets to the 15-20 mph range, the whistling goes away and the sound is more base sounding like a airplane propeller. None of the sounds are disterbing or very loud.

im really interested in creating a hybrid wind and solar system off grid for the coast of west africa it will need to generate 400 kilowatt hours per month.i would like to know if a skystream system or similar could do this job with minimum use of solar panels as the wind speeds there are very good to excellent.i would appreciate all the advice i can get on this project.
